Although the tuners could have proved to be difficult, with a
little thought the fitting was largely easy... read on.
 |
This is how you get the tuners when you pull
them out of the box. I used authentic Fender tuners for a 62
strat.
You get the tuners themselves, the ferrules for fitting to the
neck and all of the screws to hold everything in place.
Lastly, you get string trees (2) and the screws and bits to
hold them in place. |
 |
I fitted these ferrules very carefully. There
are different sizes when you buy, so be sure to get the right
ones for the holes in the neck - too large and they will break
the headstock, too small and they fall out. These are a
press fit in to the neck. I used a couple of pieces of wood
behind the neck and over the ferrule and squeezed them
together with a small vice - it sounds bad but they just press
right in really sound. |
| Next, I placed the tuners in
position and marked where the screws would go with a pencil. I
drilled the holes for the screws with a very small drill and
some tape marked on the drill to avoid drilling right through
to the front of the neck (ugh...). Mine fitted perfectly - see
the large picture below. |
 |

Lastly, I fitted both string trees. Some may prefer less -
maybe just one, but the nut was cut finely, I use 9's strings and
I bend strings an awful long way sometimes, so I decided to fit
two.
I used the 62 ones and have had no real problems with tuning or
tremolo etc so I guess these do the job for me - they might not
for you.
