When it comes down to my choice of pickups I'm REALLY fussy. I
am not an expert in pickup design but I know a man who is - and in
my view this guy remains one of the best in the world - so much so
that many other companies are now replicating the idea that
originated at his firm.
Jeff Lace - a really great guy and more than most other
companies, he really will solve every aspect of pickup
requirements that you might ever want.

Jeff Lace is the kind of guy who will go out
of his way to help - especially if you need something a little
different. My quest started in fact with a different guitar
(the dreamstrat - visit
www.dreamstrat.com for info).
On the dream Jeff had spent a very long time developing a
particular design of pickup for Awesome John (www.awesomejohn.com)
a well known artist from Turkey. Jeff cleverly used a solution
that effectively 'summed' the outputs of separate single coils
to produce a completely unique sound - I wanted 'that' sound
on this guitar. |
| After contacting Jeff and
discussing the various issues with him regarding the design,
Jeff agreed to make me a set of pickups that would be capable
of reproducing the 'summed' sounds that the dream achieved.
The picture on the right gives no clues to the design of these
pickups - exactly what I wanted to achieve (a 62 looking strat)
but, these pickups to my ears sound better in this guitar than
any others I've ever used on a strat except for the dream.
So - these are what I bought and they are for me at least a
great choice. I know the sound quality and these pickups did
not let me down. |

Here's the pickups in situ before any wiring
was undertaken. They look almost completely stock from the
front, excepf for the AGI Lace brand name, but believe me
these sound better than any of the Fender lace sensors that we
are all used to hearing. Better quality, better sound,
better.... well you get the drift. |
