This is an often overlooked area of the guitar. And one that is
very critical to the overall sound that you will achieve
especially with a strat design. Here are the components I used.
 |
This is the old fashioned copper wire with a
braided coating which is dipped in wax. If you have seen
inside old strats or reissues then this is the wire you have
been looking at. I bought this from ebay for about £2.00
(US$3.00) and it was a bargain.
By using this style of wiring you can get near to the
original design of the strat and in my view, although it is
not the best electrically, the results are both aesthetically
pleasing and true to the original design. |
| I could have bought the pots from
a thousand places but I didn't.
Instead I bought once again the genuine thing for a 62
reissue stat. These were when checked, within a few ohms of
where they should be and I knew I would have no problems with
the fit of these to the scratch plate.
The control knobs fitted perfectly as well. |

The wiring diagram is one area where I am
sure you will know best - after all who is this guy called
Fender, what does he know. The truth is, he knew an awful
lot, for a product that is hardly the cutting edge of
technology - but wait, back in 52/3 it WAS the cutting edge of
technology.
Change what you will, use pickups in many ways (I do but
not by modifying the wiring detail) but remember it's really
hard to better the original design. |
Most of this stuff can be bought really cheap - use the
internet.
